Want to get the best voice quality from your Internet phone system?
You can accomplish this by setting your router to prioritize your phone so it get's bandwidth before anything else. The reason that this is necessary is that VOIP phones are very sensititive to lost or delayed packets. This manifests itself as that missing conversation we're all familiar with from a bad cell phone connection. VOIP phones don't need much bandwidth — but they absolutely need it in a timely fashion. You can help your phone get the best call quality by giving it first priority.
You accomplish this on the Linksys WRT54G by logging into your router using a web browser; typically by pointing it at 192.168.1.1. with a password of "admin", no username. (Assuming that it's still at factory settings.) Then once in, under Applications and Gaming->QoS, setup the port your VOIP device uses with a priority of "highest".
